Three days hunting wildlife in a protected jungle that once blanketed the subcontinent

A 3-day safari tour from Kathmandu or Pokhara into Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 932 square kilometers of Terai forest. You travel by jeep through the park, paddle the Rapti River by canoe, visit a crocodile breeding center, watch a Tharu cultural performance, and stay at a luxury resort with all meals and flights included. Wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions, so the guide builds the day around the jungle itself, not a guarantee.

The experience

The tour starts with a flight from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Chitwan, followed by a village walk through Tharu settlements and a poolside sunset with tea before dinner. The next morning begins with a canoe trip down the Rapti River, where crocodiles and gharials surface near the banks. After a tour of the crocodile breeding center inside the national park, you board a jeep for a 2.5 to 3.5 hour safari through the forest itself. This is where the rhinos, tigers and wild elephants move, though sightings are never certain. The guide reads the terrain and the animal signs, and the day unfolds around what the jungle offers that day.

Meals arrive at the resort: buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners, including a BBQ dinner in the open air facing the forest. On the final morning, a nature walk or bird-watching session happens before checkout, so the trip ends with the sounds of the jungle rather than a parking lot. The guide speaks English throughout and briefs you on the itinerary each evening, adjusting for weather and animal movement. If flights cancel due to bad weather, the operator arranges a private transfer by road instead.

Top questions

What wildlife might I see on the jeep safari through Chitwan National Park?

Rhinos, tigers, wild elephants and gharials live in the park, though sightings depend on natural conditions and luck. The guide cannot promise them. The 2.5 to 3.5 hour jeep safari moves through the forest where these animals roam, and the operator recommends keeping flexible expectations and enjoying the jungle environment itself.

Does the tour include flights from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Chitwan?

Yes, flights to and from Chitwan are included in the package price. If weather cancels flights, the operator arranges a private vehicle transfer instead, so you reach the park either way.

What happens on the second day in Chitwan?

Day two is a full day of safari activities: a canoe paddle on the Rapti River in the morning, a tour of the crocodile breeding center inside the national park, and a 2.5 to 3.5 hour jeep safari in the afternoon. You return for tea, then watch a Tharu or Darai cultural dance performance before a BBQ dinner facing the jungle.

Are meals included in the package?

All breakfasts, lunches and dinners during your stay are included: buffet meals at the resort plus a BBQ dinner in the open air. Alcoholic beverages and drinks are not included and can be purchased separately.

What is the Tharu village tour like?

On arrival day, you walk through Tharu or Darai settlements to see how the indigenous communities live in the Terai region. The tour also includes an evening cultural performance with traditional dance and music at the resort.

Can I choose between flying and driving to Chitwan?

The tour offers multiple options at checkout: you can fly from Kathmandu or Pokhara, travel by deluxe tourist bus, or arrange a private vehicle. The itinerary remains the same. Only the transport method changes.
