ATV riding in Swakopmund is a one-hour guided quad bike adventure through desert dunes with a professional guide, safety briefing and all gear provided. Groups stay small, typically six riders per guide, so you get steady instruction as you progress from the slower foothills to the larger dunes. Kids ride with a parent or guide if they're too small for their own bike.

The experience

You ride your own quad bike, not watch from a passenger seat. After a safety briefing and a short introduction to the controls, the route starts slow and steady as you head toward the larger dunes, giving you time to get comfortable with the bike before the terrain opens up. The guides stay with you throughout, and stops happen when you need them or want to photograph the desert. Most riders have never been on a quad bike before and find the machines easy to handle.

The route follows set-out paths that Desert Explorers maintains to protect the desert. Departures run at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30am, and you can book the time that fits your day. Pickup is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to the start point. The one-hour ride covers enough ground to feel like a real adventure without eating up your whole afternoon.
