The experience
You meet at Hotel A La Mer in Swakopmund at 11am on day one, or arrange pickup from your accommodation by 11am if you're staying elsewhere in the city. The vehicle departs at noon, heading into the Namib Desert with stops to stretch and grab a drink before you reach Desert Camp late afternoon. Dinner is prepared by your guide, and you settle into a twin-share room with an en-suite bathroom.
Day two is the core of the tour: you start early from the 4x4 carpark and walk into Deadvlei, where bleached clay cracks in geometric patterns beneath towering red dunes and ancient camelthorn trees stand skeletal against the sand. From there you move to Sossusvlei for brunch, then stop at Dune 45 on the way out for photos. The afternoon takes you to Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge carved by seasonal water flow and a vital source for local wildlife. You return to Desert Camp for the night.
On day three, you spend an hour at the Solitaire Carnivore Conservation project learning about cheetah before heading back toward Windhoek. The route passes the Naukluft Mountains and Rehoboth, arriving in Windhoek by early afternoon. The operator does not recommend this day for flights, so plan onward travel for the following day.

Is this one for you?The 3-day span leaves your first afternoon in Swakopmund free if you arrive by midday, and gets you back to Windhoek by early afternoon on day three: enough time to settle into the city but not to catch a same-day flight. Choose this length if you want the main dunes and canyon without committing to a longer safari.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 16 years); Child (5 to 11 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly is Deadvlei and why do people hike there?
Deadvlei is a flat clay pan surrounded by some of the world's highest sand dunes, dotted with the skeletal remains of camelthorn trees that died when the dunes cut off the water supply centuries ago. You walk among the bleached wood and cracked earth at the base of the dunes, which is why the tour includes a 4x4 carpark stop to access it on foot.
Do I need to be fit to do this 3-day tour?
The operator asks for at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The tour involves walking in sand dunes and exploring canyon terrain, and it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
What meals are included, and what do I need to arrange myself?
Dinner on nights one and two is prepared by your guide at Desert Camp, and tap water is provided throughout. Snacks and drinks during the day, as well as meals in Swakopmund before departure, are not included, so plan to purchase those before you meet at the hotel.
What time does the tour end on day three, and can I catch a flight that day?
You arrive in Windhoek by early afternoon on day three. The operator does not recommend booking flights on this day because the return timing can vary. Plan onward travel for the following day instead.
Is the cheetah experience a separate activity, or part of the tour?
The one-hour cheetah experience at the Solitaire Carnivore Conservation project is included in the tour price and happens on the morning of day three, before you head back to Windhoek. It is built into the itinerary, not an optional add-on.
Does the tour include pickup and drop-off in both cities?
Yes. Pickup is included anywhere within Swakopmund city limits on day one (arrange it when you book if you're not staying at Hotel A La Mer), and drop-off is included anywhere within Windhoek city limits on day three.
