Step-by-step itinerary
Hike Todra Gorge and cultural visit
- Hike through Todra Gorge canyon
- Pass narrow stone wall section
- Enjoy landscapes of Todra Gorge
- Visit Nomadic camp for tea
- Learn Berber phrases with locals
- Hike past ancient kasbahs
- Stroll along river to main road
- Return to hotel or local transport
The experience
The hike starts at the mouth of Todra Gorge and follows the river valley through red rock cliffs. The route narrows into a 600-meter passage where the canyon walls close in on both sides: the defining stretch of the day. Your guide, one of four local professionals who grew up in the gorge, sets the pace and points out the landscape as you walk. The final section passes ancient kasbahs and follows the riverbed back toward the main road.
At a nomadic camp partway through or at the end of the hike (depending on which option you book), you stop for tea and sit with the locals. This is not a performance: the guide translates as you talk, and you pick up a few phrases in Berber. The tea is warm and the conversation is real. If your hotel is close to the gorge, the guide can walk you back. For hotels further out, the operator arranges local transport to get you there.
You choose between a 3-hour hike or a 5-hour one that spends more time at altitude for views of the High Atlas Mountains. Both routes include the guide, bottled water, and tea at the camp. The guides speak English, Spanish, French and Arabic, so language is not a barrier. Children from age 5 can join.
What’s included
