Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Tinghir Oasis and Berber culture

  • Walk through Todra Oasis palm groves
  • Visit mosque near old kasbah
  • Experience Berber family carpet weaving

The experience

Start in the Old Medina, where narrow alleys open onto colorful souks and the 16th-century Kasbah sits among the buildings. The walk takes you through the labyrinth at ground level, so you see the architecture and the daily rhythm of the market as it happens. From there, the route leads out toward the Todra Oasis: a 30-minute walk through palm groves irrigated by the Todra River, with the Todra Gorge rising in the distance.

The third stop is inside a traditional Berber home, where family members work at looms weaving carpets from wool dyed with natural colors. They explain the symbolic patterns woven into each piece and may invite you to try the loom yourself. Mint tea and conversation are part of the visit, and the whole experience sits inside the rhythm of the weaving itself: the sound of the loom, the hands moving through the threads, the finished work taking shape.

Your guide speaks English throughout and knows the history of both the Medina and the oasis. The pace is walking speed, so you move at a moderate tempo. The total time depends on how long you linger at each place. Entrance fees are covered, so there are no surprises at the gate.
