The experience
Todgha Gorge sits near Tinerhir in the Atlas Mountains, and the canyon walls are studded with nearly 600 bolted routes that climb 520 meters or more. Your guide, Abdulmajed, grew up in the gorge and knows which routes suit your ability: beginners start on easier pitches to build confidence, while experienced climbers get advice on the hardest challenges the rock offers. All climbing gear (harness, rope, protection, helmet) comes with you. You bring only your willingness to climb.
The day breaks into pitches and rest points. You climb, belay your partner, take in the canyon from the rock face, then move to the next route or work on technique where you are. The limestone is solid and the bolts are well-maintained. A bottle of water travels with each person. How long you stay depends on which option you book: a 1-hour session gets you on the rock and back down. A full day lets you string together multiple routes and feel the rhythm of the climbing. The guide watches your form, catches you if you slip, and points out the lines that will challenge you next.
If you want to stay longer and explore more of the valley, local guest house accommodation can be arranged. The gorge fills with other climbers in season, but the routes are numerous enough that you rarely wait for a turn. Bring sunscreen and a willingness to get chalk dust on everything.
