The experience

You get picked up from your hotel or riad and driven to the staging area, where the guide fits you with a helmet, goggles and an optional scarf before walking through the basics of operating the quad. The 2-hour ride itself moves through three kinds of terrain: palm groves on the outskirts of Marrakech, open desert trails, and paths that wind past Berber villages. The pace includes photo stops, so you're not racing. You're riding at a speed that lets you take in the landscape and the villages as you pass through them.

Midway through, you pull into a local village for a break. A family there serves traditional mint tea or coffee, and you get a few minutes to walk around, see how people live outside the city, and let the adrenaline settle. Then it's back on the quad for the second half of the ride, which loops back toward Marrakech before the driver returns you to your accommodation.

The whole day runs about 3 hours from pickup to drop-off.
