A pottery workshop in Marrakech where you learn hand-building and potter's wheel techniques, create pieces by hand, and take your wrapped creations home to dry and decorate yourself. Children from age 3 are welcome. If you're staying in Marrakech for at least a week after the workshop, the studio can fire your pieces with a biscuit firing before you decorate them.

The experience

What happens in a pottery workshop when you've never touched clay before? The session starts with the basics: how clay dries, how it fires, what makes a piece hold together. Then you move straight to making something. The hand-building technique is simple enough that your hands learn it faster than your mind can doubt it: you shape the clay directly, no wheel, no equipment but your fingers and the clay itself. After you've made what you wanted to make, you get to try the potter's wheel: the thing that looks impossible until you're standing at it and it's spinning under your palms.

Midway through, there's tea. A real break, not a rushed transition. At the end of the session, your pieces get wrapped carefully so they don't crack on the way home. You take them with you. They need a day to dry in your accommodation, then you paint them however you want. If you're staying in Marrakech for at least one week after the workshop, the studio will fire them with a biscuit firing before you decorate. That's the step that makes them permanent. If you're leaving sooner, you decorate the unfired pieces and they stay soft, which is its own kind of finish.

The workshop runs 2 hours. It's wheelchair accessible, and children from age 3 can join. Infants can come if they sit on an adult's lap, and there are specialized infant seats available. The space is designed so you don't feel rushed or watched. The focus stays on what you're making, not on performing.
