Majorelle Garden and Camel Ride in Marrakech: Skip the Line
Two gardens, one camel, no planning
A half-day tour in Marrakech that pairs Majorelle Garden—the 12-acre landscape designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle—with a camel ride through the Palmeraie, the ancient palm groves outside the city. Hotel pickup and drop-off, garden entry, and a 30 to 60 minute camel ride with tea are included. Morning and afternoon departures let you fit it around your arrival or a free afternoon.
Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Majorelle Garden and Palm Grove
- Meet driver at hotel
- Explore Majorelle Garden paths and fountains
- Observe birds in the garden
- Travel to Palmeraie palm groves
- Mount and ride camels through palms
- Return to hotel with driver
The Experience
The day starts with pickup at your hotel and a drive to Majorelle Garden, where you walk the paths and fountains of the 4.9-hectare space without waiting in line at the gate. The garden holds 15 species of birds and cactus gardens alongside the signature bleu Majorelle—the intense cobalt blue Jacques Majorelle painted the walls—so there is something to photograph at almost every turn. You move through it at your own pace, not herded through in a group.
From there, the driver takes you to the Palmeraie, the palm groves that ring Marrakech. A handler teaches you to mount and ride before you set out on a camel through the palms—the ride lasts 30 to 60 minutes depending on the option you choose. The motion is slow and rhythmic, and you stop for mint tea at a spot deeper in the grove before heading back to meet the driver for the return to your hotel. The camel ride is optional; if you prefer to skip it, you stay in the vehicle and see the palms from the road.
You can add the YSL Museum to this tour at checkout, or keep it to the two gardens and the camel ride. A guide who speaks English, French or Arabic travels with the group. The whole outing runs 3 to 4 hours, so it fits into a morning after an early arrival or into an afternoon when you have a few hours free.
