The experience

The first lesson starts on land. You'll learn how wind works (its strength, direction and quality), and how to read the wind window, the invisible zone where your kite actually flies. Then comes the equipment: how to set up a kite, how to hold the bar with both hands and keep it stable, and how to land it safely. Only after you've walked the kite to the water with one hand on the bar, controlling it the whole way, do you get in.

The course runs 3 hours total, including transport from your hotel and back. You work with a maximum of four people per instructor, which means real feedback on what you're doing wrong instead of watching from a distance. The timing slots around the wind: Dakhla's conditions are what make the sport possible here, and the instructors schedule lessons when the wind is actually usable. You'll get 2 to 4 hours of actual water time across the days you book, depending on conditions and how fast you progress.

Equipment and instruction are included. You need to be at least 18, and the course isn't recommended if you have spinal injuries, cardiovascular issues or are pregnant. Bring meals and any personal insurance. Neither is part of the package.
