The experience

Can you actually learn kitesurfing in a few days? Yes, the lagoon 30 minutes outside Dakhla has the conditions that make it possible. Stable wind, flat water, and desert mountains around you mean the instructor can focus on technique instead of fighting the elements. You'll start on the sand, learning how the kite responds to your hands and what the safety rules mean. That's the first 2 hours. The second lesson moves you into shallow water for body dragging: the move that teaches you how to stay upright when the board comes under your feet. By the third session, you're combining the kite and the board for a water start, which is when most riders realize they've actually got this.

The operator has run kitesurfing lessons here for over 7 years with IKO-certified instructors trained across multiple countries. They've guided more than 10,000 students through these same three steps. All equipment comes with you (swimsuits, safety vests, harnesses, helmets, bars, kites, pumps, boards), so you show up ready to learn. A driver picks you up from anywhere in Dakhla and brings you back after your session. Afterward, they'll point you toward the best local food spots to eat and talk through what you just learned.

Most riders master water starts inside 8 to 10 hours of instruction, which is roughly what three full lessons cover. You'll get an IKO Level Certification when you're done. If you want to keep going (jumps, transitions, wingfoiling, kitefoiling, or surfing), the same team runs those too. A hot shower at a natural source is included after your time on the water.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Arabic.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (6 to 16 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.

How much kitesurfing experience do I need to start?

None. The first lesson teaches kite control from the ground up, starting on sand before you ever touch water. The instructor builds each lesson on what you learned in the one before, so beginners and people leveling up both work through the same progression.

What's the lagoon like where we'll be learning?

The lagoon sits 30 minutes from Dakhla and has flat water with stable wind: the exact conditions that let beginners focus on technique. Desert mountains surround it, and the shallow depth in the learning zone means you're never far from the bottom.

Do I need to bring my own wetsuit or swimwear?

Swimsuits are provided. Bring a towel if you prefer your own, though a hot shower at a natural source is included after your lesson, so you can rinse off before heading back to the city.

What happens if the wind is too strong or too weak on my lesson day?

The lagoon's stable wind conditions make cancellations rare, but if conditions aren't safe, the operator will reschedule your lesson for the next suitable day at no extra cost.
