The Experience

The road climbs through the Rif — forests thick on both sides, valleys opening up below — and it's the kind of drive where you stop noticing time. Chefchaouen sits at the end of it, a town painted almost entirely in shades of blue, and the first time you see it from above, the color is so deliberate and so complete that it doesn't feel accidental. Once you're in the medina, the streets are narrow enough that two people have to turn sideways to pass, and the blue deepens as you go deeper — some walls almost indigo, others pale like faded denim.
