The experience

The day starts with a 40-minute drive from your hotel to the base camp in the Agafay Desert. Once there, you meet your guide and crew, get fitted with nomadic dress, and head out on a camel for the first hour: a slower, steadier way to cross the sand and take in the landscape before the light changes. After that ride, you switch to the quad bike for a 60-minute run across the open desert. This is where the pace picks up: you're operating the machine yourself, reading the terrain, finding your line through the dunes. The timing puts you on the quad as the sun drops, so the ride ends with the light turning gold across the sand.

Once you're back at the camp, the evening settles into a different rhythm. You sit under a Berber tent around a campfire in the traditional setup of southern Morocco: no electricity, no noise except the fire and the voices around it. Dinner arrives: Moroccan salad, tajine, fruit, Moroccan tea, a bottle of soda and half a bottle of water. While you eat, live musicians play Moroccan folklore and Dakka Merrakchia music. The crew stays with you through the meal, and the evening ends with a drive back to your hotel around 10 p.m.

The guide speaks English, French or Arabic depending on the option you book. If you choose the quad bike, the guide rides with you. If you pick camel only, the guide is there for the full experience. Transport is in an air-conditioned vehicle, and nomadic dress is provided so you're dressed for the camel ride without bringing extra clothes.
