The experience

Eight hours in the saddle means you cover real ground. Your English-speaking guide leads the route across the rolling hills, and the Atlas Mountains stay visible the whole time, getting closer as the morning wears on.

Halfway through, you stop at a Berber family's house for lunch: a traditional Moroccan meal served under a tent in their own desert setting. This is not a roadside stand. It is someone's home and their hospitality. The break gives the body a rest and the mind a moment to sit with what you have just driven through. After lunch, the second half of the ride takes you through villages where the pace slows enough to see how people live out here, then back toward the oasis as the light starts to shift.
