The experience
The morning starts with pickup from your Marrakech hotel at 9 AM and a drive through the countryside to the Agafay Desert camp. On the way, you stop at La Maison Berbère, a women-run cooperative where you see how argan oil is extracted using traditional methods: a chance to support local artisans before the cooking begins. Once at camp, a local chef walks you through preparing a selection of traditional Moroccan salads and an authentic tagine, the slow-cooked stew that is the heart of Moroccan home cooking.
While your tagines simmer over the fire (the cooking happens without you standing over it), you have the choice to try quad biking across the rocky desert terrain or simply rest at camp. Then comes the camel ride, a slower pace through the Agafay landscape that lets the desert settle around you. By the time you return, lunch is ready: the dishes you made, eaten in a traditional setting with the same rocky desert views that surrounded you all morning.
The full experience takes about seven hours from pickup to drop-off. You get a camel rider outfit, bottled water, coffee or tea, and all the ingredients and instruction for the cooking class. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, let the operator know before booking so they can adjust the menu. Quad biking is included as an option you can choose or skip. Camel rides are not recommended during pregnancy, though the cooking workshop is fully accessible to pregnant guests.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Infant (5 to 12 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly do I cook in the Moroccan cooking class?
You prepare a selection of traditional Moroccan salads and make an authentic tagine, the slow-cooked stew that is central to Moroccan cooking. The chef leads you through each step, and your tagine cooks over the fire while you do other activities, so you are not standing at the stove the whole time.
Is the camel ride included, or do I pay extra?
The camel ride is included in the experience. You ride after the cooking workshop while your tagines finish cooking, then return to eat the lunch you prepared.
What is La Maison Berbère, the stop on the way to the desert?
La Maison Berbère is a women-run cooperative that produces argan oil using traditional extraction methods. You visit on the drive from Marrakech to the desert camp and learn how the oil is made, supporting local artisans in the process.
Can I do quad biking instead of the camel ride, or do I have to do both?
Quad biking is an optional activity you can choose to do while your tagines cook. The camel ride is part of the standard experience, so you can do both, just the camel ride, or skip the quad biking if you prefer.
What time does the experience end, and when do I get back to Marrakech?
The full experience takes about seven hours from your 9 AM pickup. You return to your riad or hotel in Marrakech in the late afternoon, with the exact time depending on traffic and your hotel location.
