The experience

The route south from Fez takes you through Ifrane and its alpine-style architecture, then into the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas before the landscape opens toward the Sahara. You'll pass through Midelt (lunch is on your own), cross the panoramic Ziz Valley, and roll through Erfoud and Rissani (both towns known for their role in desert trade and craftsmanship) before arriving in Merzouga surrounded by golden dunes. An air-conditioned vehicle and professional driver handle the full journey. The driver speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language depending on your booking.

Once in Merzouga, you mount a camel and trek across the dunes toward the desert camp where you'll spend the night. Dinner is served at the camp. The next morning, after breakfast, you begin the return drive to Fez, traveling back through the same changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco and the Middle Atlas. Drop-off happens at your hotel or riad in Fez, completing the full loop.

The overnight camp is standard accommodation with access to shower facilities on-site. Camel trekking is led by a local guide who knows the dunes and the rhythm of the desert.
