The experience
The drive from Fes takes you through the Swiss-style architecture of Ifrane, cedar forests where you can spot monkeys, an Appel village stop for lunch, and the vast Ziz oasis near Errachidia before reaching Merzouga in the late afternoon. Once there, you mount a camel or quad bike to cross the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, watching the sun drop behind the sand while your guide leads the way. The camp sits in the desert itself: a luxury setup with proper beds and amenities, not a basic tent arrangement.
Dinner happens around the campfire with Saharan drums and live Berber music setting the rhythm of the evening. Breakfast comes at dawn, followed by optional sand boarding if you want to stay active before heading out. The return route on Day 2 passes through Rissani, the first capital of Morocco's ruling dynasty (and worth timing if you hit a market day on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday), then climbs back over the Atlas Mountains toward Fes or continues to Marrakech depending on your choice.
Transportation throughout is in an air-conditioned minibus with a live guide who speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French. All applications and taxes are included in the price. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller, and children from age one are welcome as long as an adult accompanies them.

Is this one for you?Choose the camel ride if you want the traditional Sahara experience at a slower pace. Pick the quad bike if you prefer speed and a more active approach to crossing the dunes. Both options sleep in the same luxury camp and follow the same route, so the choice is purely about how you want to move through the sand.
