The experience

The day runs between five and nine hours depending on how long you spend at each stop. You travel by private 4x4 vehicle from Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park, where the landscape opens into grassland and rock formations. The park holds the Turtle Rock Formation and the Arayabal Meditation Temple, both named stops on the route, but the core of the day is the horseback riding: you meet a local family at their ger, get on a horse, and ride out across the surroundings the way a Mongolian herder would. This is not a guided trail ride on a set loop. You explore on horseback with the family's knowledge of the land.

Lunch happens at the family's ger, included in the price. Afterward, the route moves on to the Chinggis Khan Statue Complex, the world's tallest equestrian statue. There you walk the museum, take photos in traditional Mongolian clothing provided on-site, and have time to look around before the drive back to Ulaanbaatar. The entire day is private (no other travelers, no group schedule), and the guide speaks English throughout.
