The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Playa del Carmen hotel and a drive to the Tulum archaeological zone, where a guide leads a one-hour walk through the ancient coastal ruins. You'll learn how this Mayan city functioned as a key trading hub along Caribbean routes, seeing the structures that once anchored that commerce. From there the group travels into Tulum City for a brief stop at the Mother Nature Monument, a striking sculpture that makes for a strong photo before moving on.

The bulk of the afternoon splits between two cenotes. At Cenote Dos Ojos Park, you swim for two and a half hours in the famous crystal-clear water surrounded by tropical jungle. The cenote itself is the main event here, not a quick dip. Later, at Grand Cenote, you get another hour to swim and float in a more peaceful setting. Between the two swims, you eat a traditional Mexican meal at a restaurant where one main dish is included. Drinks are available to purchase separately.
