The Tulum Ruins sit on a cliff above turquoise water, and the guide walks you through the walled city to explain what you are standing in front of — why this spot, why these structures, what the view meant to the people who built it. After the ruins, the day shifts into the jungle. A cenote is a natural sinkhole filled with mineral-rich freshwater, and you swim in one instead of looking at it from a platform. The water stays cool and clear, and the limestone walls around you are part of why the Riviera Maya's underground system is what it is.

The final stop is Akumal Bay, where sea turtles graze on seagrass in shallow water. You enter the water with snorkel gear and stay in their habitat instead of watching from a boat — the encounter is in the bay itself, on their terms. The calm water and the turtle population make this different from a reef snorkel; you are in a feeding ground, not a tourist corridor. Sunscreen is not allowed during this part of the day to protect the animals and the water they live in.

Lunch is included, and so is all snorkel equipment. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and the guide handles the stops and the timing. Total time from pickup to return is between 9 and 10 hours depending on where your hotel is.
