Step-by-step itinerary

Sunset boat tour and swimming

  • Board boat with cocktail
  • Cruise through protected canals
  • Pass waterfront homes and yachts
  • Arrive at protected cove
  • Swim and high-dive in cove
  • Enjoy music and karaoke
  • Relax floating in calm water

The Experience

The boat leaves from H2Oh Plaza in Puerto Aventuras with a cocktail already in your hand. You board the 47-foot Azimut and the crew moves fast — within minutes you're heading into a series of canals that run inland from Playa del Carmen, completely sheltered from ocean swell. The water is flat and calm. You pass waterfront homes, private yachts, jungle on one side, and then the captain takes you to this cove that's protected by breakwater walls on all sides. That's where the afternoon stops moving.

Once anchored, the cove becomes whatever you want it to be. Some people swim. Some dive off the platform. The sound system is playing through Bluetooth — you can queue up your own music or use the karaoke setup, which has over 18,000 songs and a TV for lyrics. The bar is open the whole time: margaritas, beer, mixed cocktails, shots, or non-alcoholic drinks if that's your thing. Food comes out grilled — chicken, fresh guacamole, salsa made that day, beans, rice, tortillas, chips. You're floating in calm water in the Caribbean, eating and drinking and singing if you feel like it, and the sun is moving toward the horizon. Two hours sounds short until you're actually there.

The crew handles the details. Snorkel gear is included if you want to use it, and paddle boards are available. Arrive 20 minutes early so the captain can walk you through safety — he runs a tight ship and that's the only way a boat this size works with strangers. Bring a towel and swimsuit if you plan to get in the water, sunscreen that won't kill the reef, sunglasses, and something light for when the sun drops. The return time is fixed, so you're back on schedule, not negotiating with the captain about staying longer.
