The day starts at Cobá, an archaeological site where the largest pyramid in the region rises above the jungle canopy. You climb it for views across the Yucatán Peninsula, then walk among stelae carved during the Late Classic Period: records of ceremonies and events from AD 600 to 900. The site sits at the center of a network of ancient stone causeways that connected Maya cities across the peninsula, and the scale of it becomes clear as you move through the grounds with your guide.

After Cobá, the tour moves to three cenotes within reach of each other. Choo-Ha has a narrow entrance, just 3 by 4 meters, that opens into a swimming hole. Tamcach-Ha is a descent through a cave to an underground pool popular for jumping off rocks. Multum-Ha is a natural swimming pool in a subterranean cave with life jacket rentals and changing rooms available. You swim in all three, and the guide will explain what cenotes meant to the Maya. They were sources of fresh water and sacred sites. Bring your own snorkel gear if you plan to use it. Rentals are not available at any of the cenotes.
