The experience

What makes someone taste tequila instead of just drinking it? The Mexican Spirits Club meets in a boutique in the heart of downtown La Paz to answer that question. You'll work through 6 certified Mexican spirits (tequila, mezcal, sotol, raicilla, bacanora, and charanda) each one sourced from a different state and each one with its own production story. The guide walks you through how to detect aromas and flavors, the techniques professional tasters use, and the history behind each spirit. By the end of the hour, you'll have the vocabulary and the palate to actually know what you're tasting.

The tasting starts in Jalisco, home to the most famous tequilas, then moves to Baja California and its damiana liqueur. You finish with a dessert pairing: handcrafted tequila-based chocolate liquor served with ice cream. Traditional Mexican music plays in the background, and the atmosphere stays quiet and relaxed: the opposite of a loud bar. You'll meet other visitors and spend the time actually learning, not rushing through a list.
