The experience
You start with breakfast at Xibalba restaurant: either inside a natural cave or on a terrace with views of the pyramids, depending on which you choose at checkout. The meal runs about an hour and serves typical Mexican cuisine. Then the tour moves to an obsidian workshop and art gallery where you'll see the crafts and techniques your ancestors used, followed by tastings of pulque, tequila or mezcal. A certified local guide leads the archaeological portion through the Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon and the main temples, with time to photograph the site. The day ends at Villa Tlaloc, an interactive chocolate workshop where you learn the history of cocoa and make your own chocolate to take with you.
Round-trip transport from strategic points in Mexico City is included, along with a water bottle for the road. The whole experience runs about five and a half hours. Wear comfortable walking clothes and shoes, bring sunscreen and a hat: the pyramids sit in full sun and involve climbing. A certified guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your group.
