Hot air balloon flight over Teotihuacán from Mexico City
Rise above the pyramids at dawn and land with a glass of sparkling wine
A hot air balloon flight over Teotihuacán departs from Mexico City with early morning pickup from your accommodation, a 45–60 minute flight at sunrise, and a full breakfast buffet afterward. The archaeology zone entry is optional, and you return to the city center by early afternoon. A live guide speaks English and Spanish; children from age 4 are welcome.
The Experience
The pickup arrives at your Mexico City hotel or Airbnb around 3 to 3:30 am, giving you time to wake and gather your things before heading to the balloon site in Teotihuacán. By 5:20 am you're at the company base, where you'll register with your ID (passport, visa or INE), confirm your weight for balloon assignment, and grab complimentary coffee or tea with bread while the crew prepares. The whole setup takes about 50 minutes, so there's no rushing or standing idle.
You board the balloon around 6:10 am and float for 45 to 60 minutes over the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the sprawl of temples and plazas below. The light at that hour is what makes the flight worth the early start—the stone catches the sunrise and the shadows carve out the layout of the ancient city. When you land, the crew pours sparkling wine for a small toast and hands you a certificate to mark the flight.
Breakfast is a buffet at the company restaurant, running roughly 8 to 10 am, so you eat after the adrenaline settles. After that, you have the option to enter the archaeology zone itself and walk the grounds until around 12:30 pm, or skip it and head straight back. Either way, the return drive to Mexico City drops you at the Angel of Independence monument by 1 or 2 pm. The whole day runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles the 45-minute ride each way.
