MUSA is an actual museum of sculptures on the seafloor, not just a reef.

Snorkel two of Isla Mujeres's most visited underwater sites in one outing: the MUSA Underwater Museum, where submerged sculptures sit on the seabed, and Manchones National Park Reef, a natural coral formation. A bilingual guide leads two 45-minute sessions back-to-back, with all equipment, water and snacks provided. The experience suits all fitness levels and welcomes children from age one.

The experience

Two 45-minute snorkeling sessions give you time to move between sites without the rush. The first takes you to MUSA, where you'll swim among bronze and concrete sculptures deliberately placed on the seafloor: part art installation, part artificial reef that has become habitat for tropical fish and coral. The second session moves to Manchones National Park Reef, a natural coral formation where the marine life is denser and the formations older. A professional bilingual guide leads both, staying with the group and pointing out what lives in each space.

All snorkel gear is included: mask, fins, snorkel and wetsuit if you need one. The operator provides water and light snacks between the two sessions to keep you comfortable in the heat. The setup is built for families and mixed experience levels: infants can join if held by an adult, and the guide adjusts pace and depth to match the group. Public transportation options are available near the meeting point, so you don't need a rental car to get there.

What’s included

  • Snorkel equipment (mask, fins, snorkel).
  • water and light snacks.
  • bilingual guide for both sessions.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (10 to 17 years); Child (5 to 9 years); Infant (1 to 4 years).

What happens if it rains?

What exactly is MUSA and why is it underwater?

MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is an underwater sculpture museum off the coast of Isla Mujeres. Hundreds of bronze and concrete sculptures by various artists sit on the seabed, creating both an art experience and an artificial reef that marine life has colonized. You swim among them as you would any reef formation.

How deep do you snorkel, and can I do this if I've never snorkeled before?

The snorkeling happens in shallow water suitable for all fitness levels and first-timers. Your bilingual guide adjusts the depth and pace to match the group, and all equipment is provided. Children from age one are welcome as long as they're comfortable in the water.

What's the difference between MUSA and Manchones Reef?

MUSA is an art installation on the seafloor with sculptures and newer coral growth. Manchones is a natural coral reef formation with denser marine life and more established coral structures. Seeing both in one outing lets you compare how different underwater ecosystems work.

How long is the whole experience, and does it leave time for other activities?

The snorkeling itself is four hours total, with two 45-minute sessions and travel time between sites. That leaves most of the day free for other activities in Isla Mujeres or back in Cancun if you're staying there.
