The experience
How do you go from never holding a kite to actually riding one? The answer is three separate 3-hour sessions, each one focused on a single skill set. Your instructor (fluent in English, Spanish or German) meets you at Posada Lamar, a private beach spot inside the property where wind conditions stay reliable and the water stays empty. You start with the fundamentals: wind windows, flight plans, kite control, the neutral and power zones, safety systems, water launches and self-rescues. It sounds like a lot, but the first session is all about getting comfortable with the kite in your hands and understanding how it moves.
The second session moves into power and control. You'll practice power drag, controlled water starts, transitions, and the difference between upwind and downwind mechanics. Most of the time is spent drilling water launches and starts: the moment when you actually go from standing to riding. By the third session, you're ready to ride. The focus shifts to mastering upwind mechanics, nailing transitions, running through safety procedures, and if you're progressing well, attempting your first jumps. Each lesson is tailored to your pace. The instructor stays focused on your personal progression, not on moving through a checklist.
All gear is included: board, kite, harness, and safety equipment. Tulum itself is known for steady wind and non-crowded water, which means you're not competing for space or waiting for conditions. By the end of the day you'll have worked hard, and the instructor sends you off with recommendations for the best local food and hangouts around town.
