The experience

You start with a mountain walk that gradually steepens into a climb, gaining the ridge that leads to the Eaglets Nest. The ascent builds over time: no sudden scramble, but a steady push upward through rock and scrub until you reach the summit at 1,250m. From there, a 360-degree view opens: Chipinque's peaks to one side, the hill of the chair in the middle distance, and the majestic hill of the miters filling the horizon. The wall that rings La Huasteca rises all around you, and the light here makes the photographs worth stopping for.

The descent is where the adrenaline arrives. You clip into the harness and rappel down the first 35-meter drop, then a second at 35 meters, then a third at 40 meters: each one a controlled slide down the rock face with the guide managing the rope below. After the rappels, the terrain tightens: you enter a 10-meter chimney, a narrow vertical passage where you descend by bracing yourself against both walls, then cross a steep trickle of loose stone to return to the starting point. The whole day takes eight hours from pickup to drop-off.

Certified guides lead in your choice of English, Spanish or Portuguese, and they carry the safety helmet, harness, descent system and all technical gear. Private transportation collects you from your hotel or meeting point, and the operator includes photos taken throughout the route. Emergency insurance covers the activity. The only things to bring are water and a snack. Those are on you.
