Release a turtle you've adopted into the Pacific, then watch it swim toward the open ocean

A turtle release activity in San Jose del Cabo where you adopt a baby sea turtle, learn about the species and its habitat, and help release it into the ocean as part of a wildlife conservation program. The experience runs 2 to 3 hours and includes hotel or port pickup, a professional guide in English or Spanish, bottled water, and an adoption certificate. Children from age 3 are welcome when accompanied by an adult, and the beach location varies between La Bocana and Costa Azul depending on conditions.

Step-by-step itinerary

Turtle release at San Jose del Cabo beach

  • Visit San Jose del Cabo beach
  • Adopt a baby turtle
  • Learn about sea turtles
  • Help release turtle into ocean

The Experience

Two to three hours gets you from your hotel to a San Jose del Cabo beach—either La Bocana or Costa Azul, depending on the day—where you'll meet your guide and the baby sea turtles waiting to be released. You adopt one, hold it, and learn what makes these animals endangered and how this program protects them. Then you walk into the ocean together and watch it swim away on its own.

The guide handles the logistics and the knowledge; your job is to be present for the moment the turtle enters the water. You'll get an adoption certificate with details about the turtle you released, something tangible to remember the day by. Pickup and drop-off from your hotel or port are included, so the only thing you arrange is showing up.

Weather can cancel the release—the ocean has to cooperate—but the operator offers an alternative date or a full refund if that happens. Bring sunscreen and wear shoes you don't mind getting wet. Bottled water is provided; food is not, so eat before you go or plan a meal after.

What’s included

Is this one for you?Book this if you want a hands-on moment with a living animal rather than watching from a distance—you hold the turtle and release it yourself, which is what makes the conservation feel real instead of abstract.
