Private Surf Lesson Costa Azul: Learn with personalized coaching
Catch waves with one-on-one coaching tailored to your skill level
A private surf lesson at Costa Azul Beach in Los Cabos pairs personalized instruction with one-on-one attention in the water. Your instructor adapts the session to your experience level—whether you're a beginner catching your first wave or refining technique—and covers ocean safety, paddling, positioning, and wave selection before and during the session. The lesson runs about two and a half hours and includes surfboard, rashguard, equipment, water, snacks, and round-trip transportation from selected areas. Morning departures are usually recommended for cleaner conditions; the experience operates seasonally from mid-March through mid-November based on swell.
The Experience
You start on the beach with your instructor, who walks through ocean safety, paddling mechanics, body positioning, and how to read and select waves before you enter the water. This foundation matters—surfing is as much about understanding the ocean as it is about balance and timing. Once in the water, you get continuous one-on-one coaching as you practice, with the instructor helping you improve your pop-up, weight distribution, and confidence on the board. Because it's private, you're not waiting for turns or competing for waves; the pacing and wave selection adapt to what you're working on that day.
Costa Azul is one of Los Cabos's most consistent surf breaks, with Pacific swells that work for beginners through advanced surfers. The beach has a scenic coastline and the warm water means you can focus on technique without fighting cold. You'll have a surfboard sized to your weight and experience, a rashguard to protect from the sun and board rash, and an umbrella and beach chairs set up on shore for rest between sets. If you need a specific board size, a fiberglass board, or a wetsuit (available in winter months), you can request it with 24 hours' notice. Bottled water and light snacks keep you fueled through the session.
Round-trip transportation from selected areas arrives in an air-conditioned vehicle, and you'll receive exact pickup instructions within 24 hours of booking. The instructor ratio is one-to-three, so even in a private lesson, the operator may pair you with up to two other guests unless you book the private option exclusively. If someone wants to watch without surfing, an observer spot is available with advance notice and an additional transportation fee. The experience requires moderate physical fitness and basic comfort in the water; it's not recommended for travelers with back problems, pregnancy, or serious heart conditions. Seasonal operation (mid-March through mid-November) depends on swell conditions, and unsafe weather or ocean conditions trigger a reschedule or full refund.
