The experience
The day starts with pickup between 4:30 and 5:00 am from your Mexico City accommodation. You'll arrive at Teotihuacán by 6:00 am, where the crew greets you with coffee, tea, fruit and cookies while you register. By 6:30 am you're at the launch clearing, watching the balloon inflate. The best time to photograph the process before boarding. The flight itself runs 40 to 60 minutes depending on weather, lifting you over the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the sprawl of the Teotihuacán Valley below.
After landing, you'll make a champagne toast, a tradition after every balloon flight, and receive a flight certificate as a souvenir. Breakfast follows at 8:15 am: a Mexican buffet at the on-site restaurant. From there, you have roughly one to two hours of free time to walk the archaeological zone at your own pace. Admission to the pyramids costs 210 Mexican pesos and is not included in the tour price, so you can choose whether to enter the site or simply explore the grounds. Once you're ready, the air-conditioned vehicle returns you to Mexico City, or you can arrange immediate return after breakfast if you prefer.
The tour runs 6 to 8 hours total. Your guide speaks English or Spanish. Children from age 4 are welcome, and the crew can accommodate service animals. The physical demand is moderate: you'll be on your feet for the balloon boarding and landing, and walking the archaeological zone requires standing and some uneven terrain.
