Baja California Sur Snorkeling Tour with Marine Biologist
Six hours scanning the horizon, following the birds, slipping into the water when the ocean reveals itself
Snorkel the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur on a six-hour ocean safari led by a marine biologist and a local captain who reads these waters for a living. The boat has no fixed route. Your captain follows diving birds, surface ripples and the signs of life, and when conditions are safe, you slip in to snorkel or freedive. Encounters range from schools of mobula rays and pods of dolphins to sea lions, whales and rare sightings like orcas. Wildlife is never guaranteed, but the day unfolds on the ocean's terms. Mask, fins, snacks, light lunch and GoPro footage are included.

The experience
You meet at the boat launch on Playa Central in La Ventana, get fitted with gear and a safety briefing, then push into the Sea of Cortez: the aquarium of the world. What happens next depends on what the captain reads in the water. He's a former fisherman who's navigated these waters his whole life, and he knows where the action is. Your marine biologist narrates what you find: the behavior of mobula rays moving in formation, the ecology of dolphins, why sea lions hunt the way they do. The point is not to chase. It's to approach quietly and slip in when the moment is right.
Schools of hundreds of mobula rays glide past in April through June. Dolphins ride the bow year-round. Sea lions spin around you underwater. December through April brings whales. On rare, special days, blue whales or orcas surface. Between encounters, you rest on the boat with snacks, water and a light lunch (burritos or ceviche), and time to ask the biologist about Baja's ecosystem. The captain keeps reading the conditions. The day unfolds.
GoPro footage goes home with you so you stay present in the water instead of fumbling with a camera. Your booking keeps the economic impact in the community. The captain and crew are local. Small groups mean no rush and no script. The ocean decides what the safari becomes.
