The experience

The morning starts on the water. You depart early by speedboat to find dolphins in their natural habitat, spending two hours in the sea with a chance to swim alongside them. The boat returns by mid-morning, and from there the day shifts to land: a stop at Chamarel viewpoint overlooks the Benitiers Islet, then you sit down to a three-course meal featuring local Mauritian flavors (a starter, main and dessert) before the afternoon's sightseeing begins.

The Gorges Viewpoint opens onto Black River Gorges National Park, where dramatic cliffs drop into lush valleys and deep ravines frame the landscape. Alexandra Falls follows, a cascade plunging over rugged rock face surrounded by tropical foliage. You walk scenic trails here and feel the mist. The final stop is Grand Bassin, a crater lake sacred in Hindu tradition, ringed by vibrant temples and colorful statues where you can walk the serene paths and take in the panoramic views.

Your driver-guide speaks English or French and stays with you throughout. The vehicle is fully air-conditioned, snorkeling equipment is provided, and bottled water travels with you. Gratuities are optional. The tour runs six to eight hours depending on pace and traffic.
