The experience
The tour starts at Le Caudan Waterfront, where you stroll around the marina and photograph the Umbrella Passerelle before moving into the markets. At the Craft Market and Central Market in Port Louis, you walk through stalls of locally produced goods, spices and street food. The Central Market also gives you the chance to try the local lottery if you want. These stops let you see how Port Louis actually works, not just pass through it.
From the markets, you climb to Citadel Fort Adelaide (La Citadelle), a British-built fortress from 1834–1840 perched on Petite Montagne Hill. The panoramic views from the top take in Port Louis, the harbour and the surrounding mountains. After that comes a quieter moment at Marie Reine de la Paix, a peaceful spot in the city. Then you walk through the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, where the giant water lilies have leaves reaching up to 2 meters across. You'll also see the palm collection, spice garden and medicinal garden. Lunch, a 3-course meal, happens at a local restaurant, and you can choose vegetarian or non-vegetarian (Halal options available). The day ends at the Kaylasson Temple, an ornate Hindu temple where you can admire the architecture and experience local spirituality.
Your guide speaks English, French, Italian, German or Spanish, and the vehicle is fully air-conditioned. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport to the starting point. Bottled water comes with you throughout the day.
