The experience

The mangrove sits where the land meets the water, its root system tangled and dark, and it is the first stop. A guide walks you through to show what lives there and why it matters to the reef and the fish you'll see later. From there, the route moves to Salines beach itself: the one locals call the most beautiful in Martinique. The sand is fine, the water transparent, and you swim here with the snorkeling gear supplied. The guide points out what moves beneath the surface.

A second beach follows, also in the south, with the same calm water and the same invitation to stay in. Between the two, you visit the Salines pond, a shallow body of water just inland from the beach, and the guide explains what it does for the ecosystem and why it needs protecting.
