Step-by-step itinerary
Malta night tour with city visits
- Drive past Mdina at night
- Visit Valletta Waterfront promenade
- Explore Cospicua city
- Explore Birgu city
- Explore Senglea city
- Enjoy illuminated landmarks views
The experience
The tour runs after dark, when Malta's stone cities shift character entirely. Mdina, known as the silent city, sits lamp-lit on its ridge; Valletta's bastions flood the harbor below; and the Three Cities (Cospicua, Birgu and Senglea) rise from the Grand Harbour's eastern shore, their fortifications outlined in light. The route passes the Valletta Waterfront, an 18th-century promenade of converted stores and warehouses now lined with bars and restaurants, which glows differently at night than it does by day.
You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with a private driver, so the pace is yours and the stops are timed to the light. Partway through, you'll stop for a traditional Maltese snack bought fresh from a local shop. The kind made from produce sourced on the island. Bottled water is provided, and Wi-Fi is available in the vehicle. If you want to extend the evening, you can add a three-course dinner at one of the operator's restaurant partners, seated where you can see one of the illuminated landmarks from your table.
Hotel pickup is included, and the tour lasts between three and four hours depending on traffic and how long you linger at each stop. The route covers ground, so this is a drive-and-look experience rather than a walking tour. The vehicle does the work of getting you between the cities after sunset.

Top questions
What is Mdina like when it's lit up at night?
Mdina, called the silent city, sits on a ridge overlooking the island and has been inhabited for over 4,000 years. At night, when it's lamp-lit, it takes on a timeless, quieter atmosphere than it has during the day, and the floodlit stone of its buildings shows their age and grandeur.
Can I add dinner to this tour?
Yes, a three-course dinner at one of the operator's restaurant partners is available as an optional add-on at checkout. You'll be seated with a view of one of the illuminated landmarks, and the average set menu price is €30 per person.
What are the Three Cities?
Cospicua, Birgu and Senglea are three fortified harbor cities on the eastern side of the Grand Harbour, across from Valletta. All three are part of the tour's night drive and are lit after dark so their fortifications and harbor-front positions are visible from the water.
Does the tour include food?
A traditional Maltese snack made fresh from local produce is included and bought from a local shop during the tour. Bottled water is also provided. The optional dinner is separate and booked at checkout.
How long does the tour take?
The tour runs between three and four hours, depending on traffic and how long you spend at each stop. Hotel pickup is included in the booking.
