The experience

The tour starts in Kuching's city center, where the narrow streets near the river hold ornate temples, markets, historic buildings and traditional Chinese shop houses. You'll walk through the maze-like alleys of Old Kuching, see the Cat Statues, visit the Tua Pek Kong Chinese Temple, and stop at the Sarawak Museum to trace the region's history from the era of the White Rajahs to the present day. The route also takes in the Square Tower, the Astana (the palace), the old State Mosque, and the Kuching Waterfront Esplanade, where you can see across the river to Fort Margherita.

After the city stops, you drive an hour through the rainforest and past the Padawan Mountain range to reach Annah Rais Longhouse, located 60 kilometers from the city. The longhouse stands 10 feet above the ground and is built from ironwood (belian) and mature bamboo (apek). Some parts are original construction, built without nails. More than 80 doors represent the families living there, roughly 1,500 people in total, all related to each other. You'll see how the structure was assembled and get a sense of daily life in a traditional Bidayuh community.

Your driver speaks English throughout the tour and handles all transport in an air-conditioned vehicle. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if your accommodation is within 1 kilometer of Kuching City Centre. An additional surcharge applies for pickups outside that radius. If you're arriving by cruise ship, you can arrange pickup from the port instead.
