The Experience

The first thing I noticed wasn’t the view — it was the hush that hit when the elevator doors opened at ARAS, 282 meters up in Kuala Lumpur Tower. You’d think it would be noisy, but there’s this soft clink of plates and a low hum of conversation. The city felt far away and close all at once. Our driver had picked us up right on time (I’m not a morning person, so that helped), and by the time we reached the top, my ears popped a little from the ride up. I kept glancing out the windows — Petronas Towers looked almost toy-sized from here.

I didn’t expect to get so distracted by the buffet. There were these little satay skewers next to sushi rolls, and I tried to pronounce “rendang” properly — Li, one of the staff, laughed and corrected me gently (I probably butchered it). The air smelled like pandan and coffee, which was oddly comforting. We went for lunch, but you can book dinner or even afternoon tea if you want something slower. I liked that water, coffee, and tea were included — no awkward surprises when you’re just trying to relax.

Honestly, I lost track of time just watching clouds drift past the glass while picking at dessert. There’s something about eating this high up that makes everything feel a bit lighter — maybe it’s just being away from street noise for a while. When our driver came back to collect us (included in the booking), I kind of wished we could linger longer over another cup of tea. Still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic down below.
