The experience

Georgetown sits at the heart of Penang as a living crossroads of cultures: Chinese shophouses, British colonial buildings and mosques line the same streets, a legacy of its days as a major trading hub. This tour moves through that layered history in a single morning or afternoon. Your driver picks you up from your hotel or cruise terminal and heads first to Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, home to the 4th longest Reclining Buddha Statue, then crosses the road to Dhammikarama Burmese Temple with its 8.2-meter standing Buddha, the tallest in Malaysia. Both temples arrived with Thai and Burmese settlers in the early 1800s.

From there the route becomes a scenic drive through the UNESCO-listed streets themselves: Fort Cornwallis and the Esplanade, Little India, the Streets of Racial Harmony where the Kapitan Keling Mosque stands, and Chew Jetty, the waterfront settlement of wooden shophouses built over the water. You stop for complimentary white coffee or tea at Coffee Tree, a Penang staple, before the driver returns you to your hotel or cruise terminal, or drops you anywhere in the city center if you'd rather explore on foot from there.

The tour runs four hours and works for all fitness levels. Infants can ride in a stroller or sit on an adult's lap. Note that the sequence may shift if traffic is heavy or a site closes unexpectedly, and any time over four hours carries an additional charge. You can also request optional add-ons at checkout.
