Cameron Highlands Day Trip: Mossy Forest & Tea Plantation
Tea fields and mist-wrapped forest in one mountain morning
A guided day trip from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands covers SG Palas Tea Plantation, the Mossy Forest boardwalk at high altitude, Kea Farm market, and lunch at a local restaurant. The tour runs 10 to 12 hours with pickup included, an English-speaking guide, and a vehicle sized to your group—sedan for one or two, MPV for three to five, tour van for six to ten. Access to Mossy Forest requires a shared 4WD Land Rover journey of about 25 minutes each way, as private vehicles cannot go beyond the checkpoint. Traffic on weekends and public holidays can be heavy enough to require skipping or swapping attractions to stay on schedule.

The Experience
The day starts with pickup from Ipoh and a drive into the highlands. You'll begin at SG Palas Tea Plantation, where rolling tea fields stretch across the valleys in the cool, misty climate. From there, the route climbs toward Mossy Forest on Gunung Brinchang. At the checkpoint, you transfer into a shared 4WD Land Rover for the steep 25-minute ascent through tea plantations and rainforest. The boardwalk itself covers 600 metres total—300 metres in and 300 metres back—winding through moss-covered trees, ferns, orchids, and rare mountain plants in the mist.
After descending the same way (another 25 minutes), the tour moves to Kea Farm, the highest market accessible by road, where local farmers sell fresh strawberries, vegetables, flowers, and highland snacks. You can browse, photograph, and buy to take home. The group then stops at Golfer's Cafe in Brinchang for lunch, where you choose from Western, Asian, and vegetarian dishes and eat at your own pace. Depending on time and traffic, the itinerary may also include Green View Garden and Avant Chocolate for locally made premium chocolate tasting.
Your vehicle is chosen by group size: a sedan if you're one or two people, a Toyota Innova or similar MPV for three to five, or an air-conditioned tour van for six to ten. Bottled water is provided throughout. The guide speaks English and travels with the group. Note that SG Palas Tea Plantation closes every Monday, and heavy traffic on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays can force the tour to skip or replace some stops to keep the schedule intact.

What is the Mossy Forest boardwalk actually like when you get there?
Mossy Forest is a high-altitude cloud forest at one of the highest points in Cameron Highlands, covered in thick moss and mist. The boardwalk walk is 600 metres total—300 metres in and 300 metres back—passing through moss-covered trees, ferns, orchids, and rare mountain plants. The cool, misty environment creates a surreal landscape, and the boardwalk is well-maintained so you can walk safely through the fog.
How do I get to Mossy Forest if private cars can't go there?
Access to Mossy Forest is by shared 4WD Land Rover, which you board at a checkpoint partway up the mountain. The Land Rover journey takes approximately 25 minutes uphill and 25 minutes downhill, offering views of tea plantations, mountains, and rainforest along the way.
What vehicle will I be riding in for the day?
The vehicle depends on your group size. Groups of one or two travel in a comfortable sedan, groups of three to five travel in a Toyota Innova or similar MPV, and groups of six to ten travel in a spacious air-conditioned tour van. All vehicles include air conditioning and space for luggage.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is included and served at Golfer's Cafe, a local restaurant in Brinchang. You can choose from Western, Asian, and vegetarian dishes and eat at your own pace in a cozy atmosphere.
When should I avoid booking this tour because of traffic?
Traffic in Cameron Highlands is very common on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and becomes even heavier during public holidays. Heavy congestion can force the tour to skip or replace some attractions to keep the schedule on track, so weekday departures are more reliable for seeing all stops.
What happens if I want to ride a buggy deeper into the tea plantation?
Bharat Tea Plantation offers an optional buggy ride deeper into the plantation for an additional ticket fee. Admission to walk in the garden and enjoy the view with tea is free, but the buggy ride is optional and paid separately if you choose it.
