The experience

The tour picks you up from your hotel and moves through Vilnius Old Town to the Cathedral Square, then passes the Presidential Palace and down Gediminas Avenue. You'll stop at St. Anne's Church (the one Napoleon is said to have wanted to carry away), and walk through Vilnius University's courtyards before heading into Uzupis, the self-declared artist republic with its own constitution posted on a wall near the Angel statue. The guide points out the Literary Pushkin manor and the Exile Memorial at the railway station.

The route then takes you to St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, one of the most ornate Catholic churches in Europe, with its interior covered in carved stone figures. From there you drive to Pavilniai regional park to see the Puckoriai exposure, a geological formation with a panoramic view over the landscape, and finish at Subaciaus hill for another vantage point over the city. The tour ends with the story of the Gate of Dawn before returning you to your hotel.

Three hours is enough to move through the main sights without rushing, though stops are brief. The small-group format means the van stays under capacity, and the guide speaks English throughout. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller, and the tour is wheelchair accessible. Note that the Alexander Pushkin Literary Museum closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, so the manor is viewed from outside on those days.

Is this one for you?The English-language guide means you'll follow the full commentary and stories behind each site without translation delays. If you're comfortable with English and want to understand the context of what you're seeing, the history of St. Anne's Church, the story of Uzupis's self-declared independence, the architecture of the Old Town. This tour delivers that. If you need a different language, ask the operator about alternatives before booking.

Top questions

What is the Uzupis area actually like?

Uzupis is a neighborhood on the east bank of the Vilnia River known as an artist republic. It has declared its own constitution, which is posted on a wall near the Angel statue that overlooks the district. The tour includes time to see both the Angel and the constitution, as well as the Literary Pushkin manor and the Exile Memorial nearby.

How much time do we spend at each stop?

The tour is structured to move through multiple sites in three hours, so individual stops are brief: long enough to see the exterior and interior of churches and to walk through the Old Town and Uzupis, but not extended stays. The pace is steady rather than leisurely.

Is hotel pickup really included?

Yes, hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the tour price. You'll be collected from your accommodation and returned there at the end.

Can I do this tour if I don't speak English well?

The guide conducts the tour in English, so you'll need to understand English to follow the commentary. If that's a concern, contact the operator to ask about other language options before booking.

What makes St. Peter and St. Paul's Church worth seeing?

St. Peter and St. Paul's Church is one of the most ornate Catholic churches in Europe, with an interior almost entirely covered in carved stone figures and decorative stonework. It's a significant stop on the tour and visually distinct from other churches in the city.
