Hunt for big cats on early morning game drives in a 110-square-kilometer sanctuary.
A two-day safari based at Saltlick Game Lodge in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, south of Tsavo West, with pickup from your Mombasa hotel and return the same afternoon. You drive the 24,000-hectare reserve twice daily (dawn and late afternoon) when lions, cheetahs and elephants are most active. The sanctuary covers thorny bush, acacia forest and savannah. The experience
Pickup happens around 6 a.m. from your hotel, and the drive to Taita Hills follows the Mombasa-Nairobi highway with a break along the way. You arrive mid-morning for a game drive en route to Saltlick Game Lodge, check in, and have lunch. The afternoon game drive runs until 6:30 p.m., then dinner and overnight at the lodge.
The second morning starts at 5:30 a.m. with coffee and an early game drive. The best window for spotting big cats. You return for main breakfast around 8:30 a.m., then a final game drive as you check out. Lunch happens on the drive back to Mombasa, arriving late afternoon at your chosen destination. The sanctuary's 110 square kilometers hold elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and dozens of bird species including ostriches, hornbills and kingfishers.
