The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel or residence and a 100-kilometer drive south along the Mombasa–Lunga Lunga highway to Shimoni Jetty, arriving around 8:30 am. From there you board a private boat and sail for about an hour while searching for dolphins in open water. The boat then heads to Kisite Mpungute Marine Park, where you enter the water to snorkel among turtles, coral reefs and dozens of fish species across 30 kilometers of protected seabed. Snorkeling equipment is provided on board, and the guide offers underwater photography and videography services.
After snorkeling, the boat sails to Wasini Island, where lunch (fresh seafood and Swahili dishes, or a vegetarian option), is served at a restaurant. You then walk through the fishing village and coral gardens with your guide, who explains the history and daily life of the Swahili people. Tropical fruits and mineral water are included throughout the day.
The return journey includes a stop at the Shimoni Slave Caves, where enslaved people were held before being transported to Arabia. The guide provides historical context at each site. You're back at your hotel by late afternoon. Scuba diving can be added at checkout for an extra cost if you want to go deeper than snorkeling allows.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want a full-day private experience with multiple stops and cultural context: the guide's explanations of Swahili history and the slave caves add depth beyond the snorkeling itself. If you prefer a shorter outing focused only on the reef, a half-day snorkeling trip would be a better fit.
