The experience

Pickup starts at 8am from Watamu, followed by a 2-hour drive into Tsavo East. After checking in at your lodge for lunch, you head out on an evening game drive. The park is home to red elephants and holds more wildlife than you'll see in most reserves: lions, buffalo, zebras, antelopes, and leopards move through the landscape throughout the day. You return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day two begins with an early breakfast and a game drive until 9am, then a 1-hour drive to Taita Hills game sanctuary: a dedicated lion sanctuary where buffalo, zebras, lions, elephants, antelopes, warthogs and other species roam. You stay overnight at either Saltlick Safari Lodge or Taita Hills Lodge. The final morning brings another early breakfast and game drive to spot elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, antelopes, baboons, buffalo and hippos before the return drive to Watamu.

Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and several other languages, so the commentary works for mixed groups. The private minivan or Jeep means your group (whether a couple, a family or a small party) travels together without strangers, and the pace adjusts to what you want to see. Lodge options include Voi Wildlife Lodge, Ashnil Aruba Lodge, Satao Camp and Sentrim Camp on the first two nights.
