The experience
The day starts with the approach to Petra's most famous monument. You walk through the Siq, a narrow rock fissure that opens suddenly onto the Treasury: the rose-pink sandstone facade carved in the 1st century as a Nabatean king's mausoleum. The canyon widens beyond it, revealing the 3,000-seat Roman Theater built during the reign of King Aretas IV, the Royal Tombs carved into the southern cliff face, and the Byzantine Church adapted from an earlier burial chamber. Each stop is carved directly into the mountainside, so you move through the site on foot at your own pace within the guided itinerary.
After Petra, the tour shifts to Wadi Rum, the desert landscape known as the Valley of the Moon. A Bedouin driver takes you on a two-hour Jeep ride through scarlet sand dunes, hidden canyons and ancient monoliths. The route includes stops at natural rock bridges (Burdah Rock Bridge and Um Fruth Rock Bridge) Lawrence's Spring, and sites with prehistoric carvings and Nabatean inscriptions. The desert's rock formations and night sky are the draw here. The Jeep covers ground that would take hours on foot.
The full day runs 16 hours from pickup to drop-off, with private transportation throughout. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle, receive bottled water on board and have WiFi access. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one additional language depending on your booking. Children from age 6 are welcome. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for pregnant travelers.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (6 to 12 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly is the Treasury and why is it called that?
The Treasury, or Al-Khazneh, is a monumental sandstone facade carved into the rock face in the 1st century A.D. as the mausoleum of Nabatean King Aretas IV. It was later named the Treasury because locals believed it held hidden treasures, though it was actually a royal tomb. The sophisticated carved design and rose-pink color make it Petra's most photographed monument.
How long do you spend walking through the Siq before reaching the Treasury?
The Siq is a narrow rock fissure about 1.2 kilometers long that serves as the main entrance to Petra. Walking through it takes roughly 30 minutes, and it opens directly onto the Treasury, giving you your first full view of the monument as the canyon suddenly widens.
What happens during the two-hour Jeep ride in Wadi Rum?
The Jeep tour covers scarlet sand dunes, hidden canyons and ancient monoliths, with stops at natural rock bridges like Burdah Rock Bridge and Um Fruth Rock Bridge, Lawrence's Spring, and sites with prehistoric rock carvings and Nabatean inscriptions. A Bedouin driver navigates the desert terrain, so you see landscape and archaeological sites that would take much longer to reach on foot.
Is the Roman Theater at Petra still used, or is it just a ruin to walk through?
The Petra Roman Theater is a ruin carved into the mountainside during King Aretas IV's reign and later rebuilt by the Romans. It originally seated 3,000 to 4,000 spectators and consists of three rows of seats separated by passageways and seven stairways ascending the auditorium. You walk through and explore it as part of the tour, but it is no longer in use for performances.
Do you need to book entrance fees separately, or are they included?
Entrance fees depend on which option you choose at checkout. One option includes entrance to both Petra and Wadi Rum. The other does not. Check your booking confirmation to confirm what is covered.
