The experience

The drive from Amman takes you south through Jordan's landscape to Petra, where the tour begins at the Siq: a narrow gorge carved into rose-colored stone that opens onto the Treasury, Petra's most recognizable monument. You spend roughly two hours at the Treasury and Street of Facades, the row of carved tombs that line the main plaza. The walk through the Siq itself takes about an hour, and the terrain is uneven sandstone underfoot.

From there, the route continues to the Urn Tomb, one of the royal tombs, where you get views back across Petra's expanse. The whole site visit runs to several hours of walking and climbing. The operator notes you should have at least a moderate level of fitness. Your driver remains with you throughout and speaks English, so questions about what you're seeing get answered as you go. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the drive back to Amman, and Wi-Fi is available on board.

Petra's entrance fee (around USD 70.52) is not included in the tour price, nor are meals or a separate guide beyond your driver. The tour runs 10 to 12 hours total, counting the drive. If you're flying in, airport pickup can be your starting point, and you return to your hotel or preferred location in Amman at the end of the day.
