The experience
The tour departs from Amman and heads to Jerusalem, starting at the Mount of Olives where you get panoramic views across the Old City. From there, you descend past the Church of the Ascension, the Church of Pater Noster and the Russian Church of Mary Magdalene. The driver then takes you to the Temple Mount, where the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque sit on a wide plaza above the city: a site held sacred by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.
You enter the Old City through the Zion Gate into the Jewish Quarter and walk the Via Dolorosa, the route Jesus took to his crucifixion, marked by fourteen Stations of the Cross. The walk ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built on the site where Jesus was crucified and where the last five stations stand inside the church itself. The interior holds various holy relics and quarters owned by different Christian denominations. Before leaving the Old City, you can visit the Tower of David (the Citadel) for rooftop views of the city, or walk the Ottoman-era fortification walls.
After Jerusalem, the tour crosses into Bethlehem, about 10 kilometers south, to visit the Church of the Nativity. You see the exact place of Jesus's birth marked in an underground grotto beneath the church. Bethlehem also holds significance as the birthplace of King David and home to Rachel's Tomb, an important Jewish holy site. The private vehicle and driver remain with you throughout, and the tour is conducted in your preferred language depending on availability.
