The experience
You meet your guide at Narita International Airport and head into Tokyo by train. Because Tokyo is one of the world's largest metropolitan areas, a single day focuses on one neighborhood or a tight cluster of sites, typically three to four stops. The guide will show you both modern and traditional Tokyo: you might walk through Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo's oldest, then move to a contemporary district like Roppongi or Akihabara; or spend the morning in the forested grounds of Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park, then explore the narrow wooden buildings and old-school charm of Yanaka and Nezu. The itinerary is yours to shape before you arrive.
Walking is the main way you move between stops within each area, though you'll use Tokyo's train system to travel between neighborhoods. The guide navigates the stations and explains what you're seeing as you go. If you want to visit Hama Rikyu Gardens, which sits alongside Tokyo Bay with tidal ponds and a teahouse on an island, or Rikugien, often called Tokyo's most beautiful Japanese garden, those are options too. Shibuya Crossing, the world's busiest intersection, and the old fish market are also on the list of possible stops. The guide covers entry fees only for the sites you choose from the itinerary. Meals and personal expenses are on you.
When the tour ends, your guide takes you to the nearest station for the Narita Express, which runs directly back to the airport. The round-trip ticket is an optional add-on at checkout: ¥6,140 for adults, ¥3,060 for children, though prices vary depending on which station you depart from. If you've already arranged your own transport back, you can skip it.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 11 years): free; Infant (under 6): free.
Can I really choose which sites to visit, or is the itinerary set?
You choose three to four sites from the full list before the tour starts. The guide builds the day around your picks, so if you want Senso-ji Temple, Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park, that's what you'll see. If you'd rather explore Akihabara, Harajuku and Shinjuku Golden Gai instead, the guide will plan that route instead.
What is Shinjuku Golden Gai actually like?
Golden Gai is a narrow alley in Shinjuku lined with small wooden buildings, many dating back to the Showa Era. Each building is only about thirteen square meters, packed with tiny eating and drinking establishments. It's dim and filled with the smell of grilling meat, and it's remained largely unchanged since the 1950s despite the modernization all around it, which is why it draws visitors looking for old Tokyo.
Do I need to pay for train tickets and museum entry separately?
Yes. Your guide's fee and the walking tour are included, but entrance fees to any sites you visit and local train fares between neighborhoods are separate. The Narita Express ticket back to the airport is optional and costs ¥6,140 for adults or ¥3,060 for children if you add it at checkout.
Is this tour only walking, or do we use trains too?
It's primarily walking within each neighborhood you visit, but you'll use Tokyo's train system to travel between areas. The guide will take you through the stations. If you have difficulty walking or using public transportation, this tour may not be the best fit.
What makes Hama Rikyu Gardens different from other Tokyo parks?
Hama Rikyu sits on Tokyo Bay and features seawater ponds that change level with the tides. There's a teahouse on an island where you can rest and take in the view. The traditionally styled garden stands in sharp contrast to the skyscrapers of the Shiodome district right next to it.
How much time do I spend at each site?
The tour runs eight hours total from the time you meet at Narita, including travel time by train between neighborhoods. Your guide will pace the day so you have time to walk and explore each of your three or four chosen sites without rushing, though the exact timing depends on which stops you pick and how far apart they are.
