The experience
The ferry leaves Tomari Port in Naha at 10am and reaches Tokashiki Port seventy minutes later. A shuttle bus with a "Sea Friend" sign takes you from the port to Aharen Beach, where you check in at the shop and meet your instructor. The snorkeling itself happens from a boat: the instructor briefs you on the equipment, then you head out to the site together. Because the instructor stays in the water with your group, you can go at your own pace and surface whenever you need to, even if you've never snorkeled before.
After the boat snorkeling, you have free time at Aharen Beach before the return journey. The shuttle brings you back to Tokashiki Port, and the ferry departs at either 4pm (March through September) or 3:30pm (October through February), landing back in Naha by early evening. Roundtrip ferry, snorkeling gear, and all fees are included. Lunch is part of the package from April to October.
The whole day runs about seven hours from pickup to return. You'll need to be comfortable in the water and wearing a life jacket, and the boat ride itself is on a large cruiser, so motion can be a factor if you're sensitive to it. Children from age six are welcome, and the activity suits all fitness levels.

Is this one for you?The day is seven hours total, with the ferry ride taking about two and a half hours round-trip and free time at the beach after snorkeling, so it suits anyone with a full afternoon to spare. The boat snorkeling means you're in the water for the main event, not watching from the shore, and the instructor stays with you the whole time. Book this if you want to actually snorkel, not just see the island.
