The experience
You'll meet your guide at one of five designated Hakone pickup points (the Tourist Information Center, Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu, the Hakone Museum of Art parking lot, Kojiri Port, or Dining Kuraichi) between 8:05 and 9:45 AM depending on which location you choose and the year of travel. The bus collects passengers from each stop in sequence, so arrival times vary by pickup point. Once everyone is aboard, the route heads north toward Lake Kawaguchiko and the Mt. Fuji area.
Fujiyama Tower is the first major stop, where you stand at an overlook taking in Mt. Fuji across the landscape and the dense forest (the "sea of trees") spreading below. Weather determines visibility. If clouds block the view, the tour pivots to Fuji Airways, where you can experience Mt. Fuji scenery through a flight simulator, or to Fujiyama Museum or Naruto as alternatives. From there, the bus continues to Oishi Park on the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, a popular walking spot with seasonal flowers and cafés. Lunch is on your own here, so you choose where and what to eat. The park's layout gives you time to explore at your pace. Owakudani comes next: a volcanic zone in Hakone where sulfur vents create a distinctive smell and the ground steams. The local specialty is black eggs, boiled in the volcanic hot springs and said to add years to your life. You can buy and taste them on-site. The tour then returns to Hakone, with drop-off times ranging from around 3:20 PM (Sengokuhara) to 5:15 PM (Hakone-Yumoto) depending on which endpoint you selected at booking.
An air-conditioned bus and English-speaking guide are included throughout. Admission fees to the attractions on the itinerary are covered in the tour price. The exact order of stops and arrival times can shift due to traffic and congestion, and Mt. Fuji visibility is never guaranteed: the tour runs regardless of weather, with no refunds if the mountain is obscured. Children five and under ride free but do not receive a seat. If a seat is needed, book them as an adult fare.
